Numbered Map Pins

How or where can I update a file so that the map pins are numbered to coincide with the results that are listed below the map instead of displaying a group of default pins that all look alike? That way a visitor can visually see the approximate location on the map for the search results listed. As it is now you have to click on the map pin to find out what number it corresponds with in the list.
