• Latest update now forces you to create a NEW stripe account if you already have other integrations such as Xero….Stripe now give 3rd party apps more control over how you use and interact with stripe. Surely this is bad for business for stripe!?!

Essentially you can not have one account for multiple platforms anymore as they don’t / won’t allow you to connect through the conventional API keys. As a result, it’s already caused us some headaches along with some of our clients because a lot of them connect to multiple platforms. This is an absolute headache when it comes to reconciliation for accounting purposes.

If you’re only using stripe to connect to Woo then you should be fine. If you use Stripe account multiple platforms for payment like we do, then expect it to start giving you headaches.

Hi @robertjamesweb, thank you for the review.

I can see how this change seems to not be ideal for you and we wish we could keep things the way they were but we can’t for the safety of our users.

Just as you can’t use a Stripe account connected to WooCommerce on other platforms like Xero, that’s the same way you can’t use a Stripe account connected to another platform on WooCommerce.

This was changed because the previous way of connecting via API keys which allows you to use the same Stripe account on multiple platforms could potentially expose your business to card testing attacks and fraud. This is why we switched to using the more secure OAuth. You can read more about that in this guide.

I hope this helps clarify things.

While we love Woo and thank the stars for such a great platform, these API changes have not been communicated effectively – and have been very badly handled indeed. I am not a person to usually complain, but this has caused such dramas across more than 10 websites we run …. many requiring new Stripe accounts – causing problems because suddenly no payment system available.

I am not sure who has initiated these changes (whether Stripe, Xero or Woocommerce) – however, it has been very poorly communicated and then “left to users” to discover the problems and solve them as with release 9.5.0 and 9.5.1 that effectively disconnected all Stripe accounts without warning.

Simply adding a blog post to a website is not enough. There should be advisory emails and warning notices in the dashboards of affected sites, at the very least. Whether that should have been sent by Stripe or Woo is up for debate, but certainly the severity of these changes has not been well advertised.

I don’t have a problem with improving security. I am 100% for it. But your ONLINE documentation is out of date, and the new plugin blocked my existing LIVE and SECRET keys and did not connect to my store otherwise.

I appreciate you want to improve. It begins with providing clear instructions with screenshots that are up to date. This new plugin is very different from the old one. I went to STRIPE for API support and they refuse to offer it — sent me offline to a email support address. As I said in a 1-star review, I lost hundreds of dollars in failed attempts to buy products in the last 24 hours due to an auto-update being turned on for this plugin. Now I suppose your answer will be we can’t please everyone and it is your fault that you had auto-updates turned on. Right? Have you noticed the number of negative reviews has surpassed your positive?
