Notify users based on groups of new posts in specified categories

    Hi! Thanks for your work on this amazing plug in. Alas, I fear it may not work for what I need…using it for a school, and need to notify parents when a new post is added to the category assigned to their child’s classroom.

    So problem # 1 is that our users are assigned to groups vs. being grouped by user role (i.e., all parents have the same role and are then added to a group established for each classroom). I can’t find a way to create mailing lists based on groups.

    Problem #2 is that I can’t find a way to notify the specified group ONLY about new posts added to a specified category.

    …is that because neither of those things can be done? Hoping I am only overlooking something obvious….

    Thanks again – the plug in is fabulous, aside from potentially not being suited to our specific needs. 🙁

    Thanks for your message.

    With regards to each problem:
    1. How are you groups created? Are they within WordPress or using a plugin?

    2. I’m working on a conditional add-on at the moment that will allow you to send a notification only if in a category / tag / term. This should be out soon.

    The groups are created within Word Press….but I can use a plug in if there is a way to make this work…it is desperately needed. Thanks!!!

    Just to clarify, the two problems are interrelated. Ex: Jane has a daughter in the Willow classroom, so she should be notified of new posts added in the Willow category (but not of new posts added in other categories).

    Jane is assigned to user role “parent,” which is the same role assigned to all parents in all classrooms, and to user group Willow. (Note that the only reason to assign users to groups here is to specify which categories they are notified about – if there is a better way please let me know!)

    Hi @melissa1968,
    Thanks for the additional information.

    I understand that all parents have a user Role of ‘Parent’ that has been created in WordPress but has this been done using a plugin? How then have you created ‘groups’ of users for each classroom? Was this with a plugin?

    The Conditional add-on should be out in the next few weeks. Hopefully earlier though.
