Notify customer if out of stock (popup message)

    If a product is out of stock, I want the customer to be able to add to cart. Which is done by allowing it in the product settings.

    However if the product is out of stock or if the customer wants more items that there are in stock (i.e. customer wants 5 but only 2 in stock), I want a message to popup to notify the customer.

    I have seen a setting when allowing backorders with notifying the customer but does not seem show any message. Any ideas?

    This is something that will require custom coding, or a plugin. I’m not aware of a plugin that does this specifically, but others might be able to point you in the right direction.
