Some questions came to my mind. It needs to be answered and directed. I want to create a link to the submenu of the site about push notifications. “Notifications: Off”. Clicking it will give the web browser the option to allow notifications. When allowed: “Notifications: On” Do I have to use a service like Onesignal for this? Can I do this without using it? If you do, will I need an extra permission when I use it? Will push notifications be activated automatically with this setting for another software located in a subfolder? Thanks.

Push notifications always require a service that distributes notifications to subscribers when an appropriate signal is received. There are already several dozen service providers for this. Push notification without such a service is not possible in my experience.

For WordPress there are a number of plugins that support such services. You can find them here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/push-notifications/

For the OneSignal you mentioned there is also a plugin – probably you are referring to this one? If you have questions about it I would recommend you to contact their support forum: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/onesignal-free-web-push-notifications/

There are services that allow you to divide such push notifications into categories, so that you can choose between different topics in a web page. How these are then made available to the user depends on the service used. My recommendation would be that you contact your preferred service provider and coordinate the procedure with them.

Thanks. i.e. I can’t ask to allow notifications without using a service. When I use a service later, I have to ask that service if it is active for it.
