Support » Fixing WordPress » Nothings broken but I still have questions about image sizes?

  • I upload images to my site that compliment or help visitors to understand my sites point of view.

Should I be sizing those pictures first?

Now I put the media in the library, than on the page, than I align and make the image the size I want. Next I use Fastest Cache to “smush” the image so there are less Kb to be loaded when a customer comes to the page.

Should I be looking at the size I make it with WP and then manually resizing the image to fit those dimensions (lets say 300px X 300px). and then smushing it?

    THank you

This could be any page on my site, not just the homepage.
And, I did a page speed test and got a D because of certain optimizations I had not made, but he page still loaded in less than 2 seconds. So, is it worth it to do all the resizing. I don’t care about my grade, but I do care if it will actually improve page load time.

    Hi lucabrasi40,

You asked, “Should I be looking at the size I make it with WP and then manually resizing the image to fit those dimensions (lets say 300px X 300px). and then smushing it?”

Yep, that’s exactly right. You want the display size to match the actual size, plus make sure the image is also optimized.

    Yep

    “and then smushing it?”
Kinda up to you. You should optimize your images, either before or after uploading, and the Smush plugin is one of many ways to do it.
