• Nothing works at all: Tested on 4 websites. All running WordPress 6.7.2 with PHP 8.1, 8.2, and 7.4.

One of these websites is a fresh WordPress installation with a standard theme (Twenty Twenty-Three) and only two plugins installed – WooCommerce and now Performance Lab. Even on this clean setup, no function can be activated.

The plugin itself can be activated, but on the settings page, NOTHING can be enabled – none of the functions work.
After multiple clicks on the “Activate” buttons, we checked the server logs and the WP debug.log.
There are no entries at all.

So apparently, it’s complete garbage and a total waste of time for us.

@mike00mike This is the first I’ve heard of the behavior you’re describing. You checked the PHP error log but did you check your browser console? It sounds like there may be a JavaScript error occurring. Please share any relevant logs there.

Whenever we release new versions of the plugin we go through the flow to activate the performance features to ensure they install as expected. What host are you using? The closest thing I’ve seen related to your experience is that sites on WP Engine or Flywheel have had trouble getting the features on the Performance screen to be listed because it queries the WordPress Plugin Directory to obtain that data, and there seems to have been an issue with the how sites on those hosts have their API configured. But again, it sounds like a JavaScript issue.

Alternatively, you don’t really need to install the Performance Lab plugin to get the performance features, which just standalone plugins. These are listed in the plugin description. Performance Lab is a plugin that now serves as a way to improve the discovery of the features being worked on by the Core Performance Team.

Sorry you had a bad experience. I assure you we do not intend to waste your time or give you “garbage”. We work hard here to try to make WordPress better for everyone.
