    This plugin was recommended to me by one of the devs of Better Search if I remember correctly. I wasn’t happy with the search results quality of Better Search, and he indicated that WP Fulltext Search might improve the results.

    I installed it, built the index, and the search results stayed exactly the same. No improvements whatsoever, nor any observable differences.

    I still kept the plugin, thinking it must have improved something. But then I started not being able to find certain images in the Media gallery when I searched on terms I knew were present in the gallery. I had no idea what caused this.

    Today, our web developer indicated that WP Fulltext Search has created database tables that take up 50% of the total size of our database contents, and using the wrong prefixes. This made me decide to uninstall WP Fulltext Search, because why keep something that doesn’t do what I got it for, and takes up so much space (not) doing it?

    And guess what? After uninstalling WP Fulltext Search, the Media gallery search works perfectly again!

    This plugin may work for some people. For us, it has only caused problems and offered not a single noticeable improvement.

    The WP ecosystem is complex and there are lots of plugins already, some of them are conflicting with each other. As for search plugins, they always in conflict with each other, so I recommended clients disable everything related to search before trying to use WPFTS. But in most cases, it’s not required.

    WPFTS is targeted to fast and precise searches. The DB size will be definitely increased because WPFTS is using the optimized index to improve the search speed. The DB size is a payment.

    In your case, I am sure you had an internal conflict between plugins and that’s why with WPFTS you saw the same results as with Better Search and can’t find some images in your WP Media Library.

    We constantly improving the plugin and if you’d asked me for help, we could solve this issue, as we already did for hundreds of free and pro clients.

    I checked my review on Better Search, and realized it wasn’t one of their devs that recommended WP Fulltext Search, but yourself. I guess I anticipated it being a true and tested solution for Better Search, but it did not address the issue. If it did, then the space it takes in the database would have been justified.

    I can appreciate that the WP ecosystem is complex and that plugins conflict with each other, but I don’t have the time to figure out what your plugin might be conflicting with. I was looking for a solution, not to make your plugin work.

    If as you imply there are often conflicts between search plugins, then I recommend looking into possible conflicts with Better Search.
