Support » Plugin: Paid Memberships Pro » Not working as advertised

  • I’m getting the following error message : “Your payment was accepted, but there was an error setting up your account. Please contact us. Cannot create a user with an empty login name.”

I’m a type of wordpress site owner that loves to work clean and keep plugins to a minimum. This is not about a conflict by other plugins or settings.

Based on the info on their official website I can’t reach out to them for help because that would require paid membership.

I could not rate this plugin higher than 1 star.

Sorry you ran into this issue. Paid Memberships Pro is a complex plugin with a lot of moving parts and errors can come up.

This particular error comes up when payment goes through but WordPress fails to create the new user. If you’re interested, here are some things to look into:

    * If you are using an offsite gateway like PayPal Standard or PayPal Express, make sure that your host/server supports “PHP Session Variables”

    * Check if you have any other plugins installed that interact with user registration. Some plugins, e.g. those to require “confirmation” on new user registration or add captchas/etc, keep PMPro from adding new users programatically. Try disabling the other plugins and reenabling them one by one to see which conflicts. When we know which plugin is in conflict, we can usually suggest a fix or work around.

Paid support is the fastest way to get help with the plugin, but we still spend a lot of time and money providing support free of charge in the WordPress.org forums here: https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/paid-memberships-pro

I will try it out on a clean wordpress installation.

@heathcliff2013 did you have couldflare or any other similar caching/security plugins/services enabled?

I have the same issue with a client, but in very few cases (1 out of 80 maybe)

@froutsis, I always deactivate cloudflare until it’s fully tested. But I am using another plugin which worked as advertised.

I want to be clear I’m not claiming the developers are bad but it’s not working for me.
