• I love the concept of Gutenberg. I have spent hours wanting to love it. Unfortunately it is just so difficult to use. WordPress really need to look at how other organisations are using this ‘block builder’ concept (e.g. MailChimp) to learn how it should be done.
I really think that WordPress need to implement the ‘block builder’ concept but Gutenberg isn’t even close for general release from a usability perspective.

  • Hi Gary, thanks for the feedback. Can you elaborate on what made it difficult to use, and the things that you like better about MailChimp, etc? Specific feedback makes it a lot easier to identify the pain points and fix them.

    Hi Ian,
In particular, in MailChimp, all ‘Content Blocks’ are visible in a column to the right of the ‘page builder’. When a block is in focus then all options for that specific content block are available. This means that the content is create in one place (left of the screen) and all options are to the right of the screen.

I battle in Gutenberg where, when the content block is in focus, some options are above the content block, some are in the right column and some are to the immediate right of the selected content block (i.e. I’d prefer that all options are in one place).
Also, to add a content block in Gutenberg either a block can be created from the + to the left bottom of a content block or there is the option to add a content block from the content block selector to the bottom right of the active content block.

I feel there are too many places to do things in Gutenberg and too many clicks to achieve things.

Thanks Gary, that’s really helpful feedback, and I can totally understand why that makes it feels difficult to get used to. I’ll pass that on the design team.
