Support » Plugin: Updater by BestWebSoft » Not the best plugin for updates

  • Pros
I’m assuming the plugin works. Why I haven’t actually tried it beyond installing? Read on.

    Cons

    • Bad grammar. How hard is it to run a check?
    • 2/3 of the plugin only works when purchasing the Pro version. It’s more of an advertisement than a useful plugin.
    • Sloppy design.
    • Adds its own menu.
    • Calls that menu ‘BWS Plugins’, advertising its creator instead of giving the user clarity.
    • Advertises their other plugins on the ‘BWS’ page.
    • Writing a 5 star review of their own product.

The plugin might work like a charm, but these are not the kind of people I want to associate with and especially not rely on.

    Hi,

    ### Bad grammar. How hard is it to run a check?
Submit screenshots or copy-paste the text where you saw an error.

    ### 2/3 of the plugin only works when purchasing the Pro version.
Free version includes common options. We use Pro version to get money for development and support fro both FREE and PRO versions. This is how the modern market works. In such a way we are able to develop new features, fix issues, communicate with users, etc.

    ### Sloppy design.
If you think that you can improve plugin usability and design, please submit a detailed review via ticket on our support forum. We are planning on updating admin interface for our plugins after WP 3.8 release. Stay tuned!

It seems that you are talking about the same con.
In such a way our user get a separate management panel with tools created by our team. These tools are compatible between each other. Besides, when new products released, they appear in this section.

Just imagine that you have 100 website. Each website is hosted on different server/provider. Much easier to use only one provider, where you have access to a great support, documentation, updates, pro abilities, tools, etc.

    ### Writing a 5 star review of their own product.
Why not? I’m the same user as you. I use own products and if the plugin works for me I like it. Besides, WordPress allows to post one review per plugin.

Speaking for myself (opinion is my own and mine only) I find that when I visit a plugin setting page and get something besides the plugin settings then that’s not useful at all.

It’s worse when that settings page is merely a landing page to advertise all of your other plugins. It’s enough of a turn off for me not to consider any of your 19 plugins or 5 themes.

    Jan,

Thanks for your comment. Yes, that is a good idea to provide user with ability disable this section. We will consider this idea in future. Currently we are working on usability and new design (along with WP 3.8 release preparations), and I think this feature can be implemented with a new interface in the nearest future.

Of course, this is a some kind of advertisement for premium products, but more important to tell people which additions they have. And make the installation process easier.
