Hey lovely people! Before doing ANY research, I rushed into purchasing a domain name and mapping ($18) from WordPress.com. I was super keen, what can I say. However, now I've obviously figured out that I want to use WordPress.org's publishing tools. Having downloaded said tools and embarked on a journey of learning, I am now wondering whether I can use my wordpress.com domain as the host of my published website, or whether I should refund my $18 and site name, and host it somewhere else that can support my WordPress.org tools once they are ready for the world to see.

I've had a google for this, but rather frustratingly, all I end up with is "wordpress.com vs wordpress.org" articles. I was wondering if anyone could elucidate my options here. Basically, have I wasted money and my favoured domain name by buying it on WordPress.com? Or can I still use it even though I am now using WordPress.org as a publisher?

If I have not explained this at all well, let me know!

I would really appreciate, to an incredible degree, any help with this!

Amazing, thank you sir! That clarifies that I have not wasted money, which is always a good thing.

To reiterate though, I am unable to use wp.com as the host for the website I made using wp.org tools, right?

Yes. wordpress.com is a hosted service, you just provide the content. Using WordPress self-hosted, you're the boss :)
