Regarding the selection between HTML and Flash; that is entirely up to YouTube I’m afraid. For iOS the WP YouTube Lyte just uses the default YouTube iframe embed code. Inside that iframe, YouTube will, depending on a number of factors, display the Flash or HTML-version.

Last time I tested (which is, I have to be honest, over half a year ago) this worked. This probably also depends on the availability of the YouTube app in iOS, which isn’t there by default any more?

Some questions maybe to help me understand:

    • Do you have the YouTube app installed?
    • Do other YouTube embeds work (e.g. this oembed-based embed on my testblog)?
    • what happens? do you see the thumbnail and/or a play-button? can you click play? what do you see?

the info on this page might be helpful as well.

Hi, thanks for your reply. To answer your questions –
Yes I have the YouTube app installed
Yes I can see other embeds such as the one on your blog
I don’t see anything, just blank space, though the HTML is there when I view source
I have deleted my cookies and history as suggested but no change.

Hmmm … guess I’ll have to test on iPhone myself in that case. I’ll keep you posted!

OK, used the video you have on your blog in this post on my testblog and used a 2 colleague’s iPhones (one iOS 6 and one 5) to test and everything worked correctly.

Pretty hard to hunt for bugs in Mobile Safari, but I would suspect another javascript component you’re using is blocking WP YouTube Lyte one way or the other. Hope this helps!

Thanks for your help, I’ve found the problem. It’s that on the iPhone the content is rendered inside an iframe. When I hide the containing div, the iframe’s height and width are set to 0, and they don’t reset when the div is shown.
