"super cache" comment not showing for anonymous users

I installed WP Super Cache today, and I noticed that the page being served to anonymous users does not include the following HTML comment in the page source:

<!-- super cache -->

At first I was concerned that that meant the plugin was still serving dynamically generated pages, but upon further investigation I noticed that it appears that the plugin is still serving a static HTML file, just the gzipped version (i.e. the gzipped version doesn’t include that “super cache” comment in the page source).

I just wanted to check to make sure I’m understanding this correctly (i.e. that the missing “super cache” comment doesn’t mean dynamic pages are still being served), and whether this is the best way to configure WP Super Cache for optimal performance.
