Have you specified your SMTP server properly in settings? e.g. smtp.myserver.com? When I left mine as 'localhost' I had the same problems until I changed that.

    Thanks for the reply!

How would I know which SMTP server to use?

If it's a commercial host, they will have told you in your signup e-mails or if you can't find it, look in their FAQ online or something - it will be standard to the company I expect. It will be something like smtp.myhostingprovider.com

If it's your own server, then it's whatever SMTP server settings you created.

    Hi

I have the same problem, I can't send the test email, the log shows the following error:

SMTP -> ERROR: Failed to connect to server: Unable to find the socket transport "ssl" - did you forget to enable it when you configured PHP? (70667265)

    Any clue ?

    Thanks

I also have the same issue. I am attempting to use a Gmail address. But I get the following error.

I could not get GMAIL to work either. I tried every possible combination, even the suggestions from the FAQ and different GMAIL accounts.

Finally I used my local host's SMTP (lunarpages). I created an email account and the output description had what seemed like all the necessary info. I used it and it worked. I guess GMAIL really doesn't like SPAM.

I've had the same problem with gmail - no matter what settings I use I always get an authentication error.

So far working great using Amazon SES though.

Gmail requires an SSL connection. If your server doesn't support SSL, then it cannot connect to Gmail.
