    Context:
I’m running an educational site. Students submit essays and the pages appear similar to blog posts. The student and I can write comments on these pages.

    The Issue:
Students receive notifications when I write comments on their essays. (Good)
I do not receive notifications when I write comments on their essays. (Bad)

I’ve checked that notifications are turned on in “discussion” in the general settings.
I have also tried every variation imaginable with the settings in WP Mail SMTP Lite to no avail. (Encryption off / SSL / TLS – Authentication on / off etc.)
Test mails go through no problem.

I contacted the company that hosts my site but they have not been able to resolve the issue. Any tips would be appreciated.

On a side note, why isn’t this a simple thing that’s built into WP? It seems so straight forward and simple on the surface yet I can’t make it work without additional plugins etc.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi @myenglishimages,

Thanks for reaching out. If you’ve configured the mailer and the test emails are successfully sent, it is likely the issue with the email you’re not receiving. Possibly, it is sent with the incorrect ‘From Email’. The From Email of every email should match the one you’ve authentication. You can check the ‘Force From Email’ option within WP Mail SMTP settings to make sure the emails are sent by the proper sender’s address.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks for the idea. I have the “force from email” checked already but it hasn’t helped. I still don’t receive notifications when others leave comments.

    Will keep trying other options.

    Hi @myenglishimages,

In that case, please check ‘Email me whenever’ settings in Settings > Discussion (https://a.supportally.com/mTloNj) and make sure the email is actually sent. If you’re still facing issues, you might want to install email logging plugins to identify the issue.

    I hope this helps!

Thanks. Yes. I’ve already checked that box.

I’ll have a look around for some email logging plugins.
