here is a video to install manually
http://www.village-idiot.org/archives/2008/06/13/how-to-upload-a-wordpress-theme/
also, you can do it from the dashboard
admin – appearance – add new
choose “upload” at top of screen and you can handle it from there
neither of those things worked for me. i watched the video and it’s the same as every other video i’ve seen on it, there’s nothing challenging there, i even used the FTP client in the video this time instead of godaddy’s in house one.
where is the “add new” you’re talking about? i don’t see that.
i suspect this is something to do with one of two things: either there’s something going on with me using godaddy to host this or, it’s something to do with me using wordpress 2.8.5.
there’s got to be something i’m overlooking, this is driving me crazy. thanks for the help anyway!
You should have downloaded the theme as a *.zip file. Then unpack it on your hard drive. Then fire up your FTP program and upload the theme’s folder (and subfolders) to your /wp-content/themes folder on your server. Make sure you go in and CHMOD the *.php and *.css files to 766 if you plan to edit them later from within the WP Dashboard.
That *should* be all you have to do. Once the theme is uploaded, WP will recognize it and it will appear among the themes you can select under the Appearance box. Other than that, I’m not sure what’s going on.
tried it. thanks for the heads up for future editing though, if this ever works i’ll keep that in mind.
Only installed themes will appear in the Dashboard. But you can search for and install new themes from there.
From your Dashboard, go to Appearance, then Add New Themes. In the Search bar, type in Minimalist, then click the Search button. The theme will appear in the window, along with lots of others. You can install from there without having to mess with FTP.
Hello, i have a similar problem with Insitusound. I use the add theme from my admin to upload buddypress theme from buddydress.com. The darkpress even when i use buddypress default theme is also giving me a blank page.
