We’re on WordPress 4.1 the latest version of Postie now (1.6.11).

Postie has been in use on several of our WordPress sites for the last 3 years, retrieving mail from several MS Exchange accounts over IMAP. Previously we were on Exchange 2003, but the accounts were moved to a new Exchange 2010 server some weeks ago. After we discovered the accounts had been moved we reconfigured Postie to use the new host name and it was able to successfully login to the IMAP server. However, after logging in it is failing to retrieve the messages that are in the account inbox. We’ve verified IMAP is working by using the standard commands over telnet (LOGIN, EXAMINE, FETCH). Postie does not show any errors in debug mode, but continues to report 0 messages fetched.

Looking for advice on further diagnostic steps we can take.

What is displayed if you click the “Test Config” button?

This is the output from the config test (I have changed the volume name below for security):

    Postie Configuration Test

    Postie is in /www/html/blogs/wp-content/plugins/postie/

    Cron: On

    Alternate Cron: Off

    iconv: installed

    imap: installed

    mbstring: installed

    Connect to Mail Host

Successful IMAP connection on port 143

    # of waiting messages:

Looks like something is going wrong. You should see something like:

    Connect to Mail Host
    checking
    imap: connection string - {imap.server.com:993/service=imap/ssl/notls/novalidate-cert}INBOX
    imap: disabling GSSAPI
    imap: connected
Successful IMAP-SSL connection on port 993
    # of waiting messages: 5
    imap: closing connection

I would look in your webserver and/or php logs to see if there is an error message.

I apologize for the delay in responding.

Configured php_error.log for my host and this is the result I get when executing the config test:

    [12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: Postie is in /var/www/html/blogs/wp-content/plugins/postie/
    [12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: Cron: On
[12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: Alternate Cron: Off
    [12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: iconv: installed
    [12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: imap: installed
    [12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: mbstring: installed
    [12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: Post time: 2015-02-12 11:36:06

    [12-Feb-2015 16:36:06] Postie: # of waiting messages:

And now the (non debug) Run Postie test:

[12-Feb-2015 16:32:18] Postie: Checking for mail manually
[12-Feb-2015 16:32:18] Postie: Starting mail fetch

    [12-Feb-2015 16:32:18] Postie: imap: installed
    [12-Feb-2015 16:32:18] Postie: mbstring: installed
[12-Feb-2015 16:32:18] Postie: There are 0 messages to process
[12-Feb-2015 16:32:18] Postie: Mail fetch complete, 0 emails

This blog I’m testing in is part of a multi-site installation. Postie is network enabled, but only configured for this and two other blogs. Not sure if that is relevant though, since previous versions of Postie worked fine in this same installation configured the same way. The only differences now are that: (a) MS Exchange went from v2003 to 2010; and (b) both WP and Postie are newer versions.

Note: Should I try upgrading Posting to the latest incremental version (which came out after I first posted this issue)?

Another difference: we recently installed and enabled a bootstrap theme (WP-Bootstrap, http://cbarn.es/portfolio/wordpress-bootstrap/) as the default for all sites. This theme is causing the following error to be thrown when pages are accessed:

    12-Feb-2015 16:44:36] WordPress database error Table ‘blogs.wp_1_options’ doesn’t exist for query SELECT option_value FROM wp_1_options WHERE option_name IN (‘siteurl’,’blogname’,’blogdescription’) ORDER BY option_name DESC made by require(‘wp-blog-header.php’), require_once(‘wp-includes/template-loader.php’), include(‘/themes/wordpress-bootstrap-master/page-homepage.php’), the_content, apply_filters(‘the_content’), call_user_func_array, do_shortcode, preg_replace_callback, do_shortcode_tag, call_user_func, ithemes_mssls->display_site_list

If you switch the theme to twentyfifteen does it work?

Upgrading Postie is something you should do, but won’t fix this issue.

Are there errors in your webserver logs?
