Support » Fixing WordPress » Not receiving comment notifications after Changing admin email

    I run a blog at http://www.cornerstonetinyhomes.com.

When I first set up the blog, I used my personal email address, but since then created emails for the staff and then changed the admin email address to one of those.

I’ve read at least ten support strings on this comment notification problem going back 7 years. I’ve tried all the solutions and none have worked so far.

I’ve checked the options table in my database and the correct email is there. I’ve checked all the user interface places where emails should be correct, and they all are.

I’ve checked my host by rechecking other wordpress blogs I have on my same host, and comment notifications work on all of them.

The only thing I can think of that might be causing this is that I changed the admin email after the initial set up and install.

I need to receive email notifications when people comment on our blog.

    Please help.

If you changed it recently, it may be a cache issue.

Try flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.

This has been going on for 3 weeks.

Also, no comment notifications are going to the old email address. No comment notifications are going out at all.

BUT our “Contact Us” page is sending emails to us just fine.

It’s just comment notifications on this one blog that are not working.

    Go to Users>> Administrator>> Edit

check if the email address you in there is the same as you have under settings>> General.

    Thanks, Tara –

    Yes, these are the same.

try this plugin and see if works for you: https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-wp-smtp/

Tara, you are awesome. Thanks for sticking with me.

I installed that plugin and checked and rechecked the settings to my email address’s smtp server. I tried to send three emails as a test and none of them arrived. I checked my webmail for spam, or any other indication, and nothing.

I’m hoping this is helping to narrow down the real cause of the problem, rather than giving you a loss for trying to help me.

    So let’s see:

other wordpress blogs in the same server send comment notifications
Caches of WP and various plugins are not holding the old email address
even setting up smtp is not sending emails.

    What possibility could be left?

This SMTP plugin has an email log, you can check it to make sure the emails are being generated, and if they are, if any errors are being returned from your mail server: https://wordpress.org/plugins/postman-smtp/

BTW, what is the email address you have setup as the admin email? Just the domain. Is it someone@cornerstonetinyhomes.com?

I uninstalled easy smtp plugin and installed the postman smtp plugin.

I configured the email settings using postman (which were very cool) And yes, Postman SMTP, I am using someone@cornerstonetinyhomes.com.

It ran the test at the end of the set up, said all settings were correct, and then said “0 emails have been sent to you using postman”.

Then I logged out and commented on a post on the blog. The comment is indeed waiting in moderation, and no email notification arrived to me – for the test of postman, nor for the comment notification.

My God. I’ve been working on this problem for 6.25 hours today.

By the way, I went to the log area for postman and zero logs were generated.

Also, just for giggles, I entered the email I originally entered – before I changed it – in both user admin profile and in general settings – and that did not work either.

I should pull out a .357 magnum and just put the whole site out if its misery.

That’s not right. On my test site I definitely get log entries when a new comment is entered. “[Coding Monkey] Please moderate: …”

no email notification arrived to me – for the test of postman

Sounds like you have TWO problems then. First, your site is not generating emails. You might want to install a new copy of WordPress over the old one? Or maybe deactivate all your plugins and switch to the default theme to confirm this is not a 3rd-party problem?

Second, if you didn’t receive the test email, but it was sent successfully, it could be an indication of an SPF problem. Here’s how to add an SPF record for your domain at 1and1.com: http://www.mail-tester.com/spf/1and1?

Bright eyed and bushy-tailed, I performed another test with postman this morning. The test email was sent successfully!

So I logged out and created another comment. No comment notification received. Re-logged in and there is the comment waiting in the moderation queue.

So my site *is* sending emails successfully. My Contact Us form on my Contact Us page has always sent emails to us – no problems.

My site is just not notifying us when someone posts a comment.

What else could be the cause here?

    Thread Starter allenstanfieldagencycom

    (@allenstanfieldagencycom)

Just went to the contact form and submitted a “contact us”. Also clicked “Send a CC to yourself”. Both emails arrived successfully.

Went to postman logs and saw three emails there: the test email, and the contact email, and its CC.

No logs for any comment notification emails are registered.

And you’ve checked the obvious … in Settings -> Discussion you have selected

      Email me whenever:

    • A comment is held for moderation
