    Hello,
I am using table of contents (free) and I have it set to toggled by default since it has been recommended by my ad provider.
The problem is that it doesn’t open correctly when on mobile.
I click on the 3 lines and it doesn’t open.
I have 2 sites and the same issue is on both sites.
    Many thanks,
    Paulina

It sounds like the required javascript for ezTOC is not being included on your mobile pages or there is another script on you mobile pages breaking javascript so it does not work. hard to say, the only thing I can do is guess without examples to look.

Many thanks for your reply. Can I send you a screenshot or how can we fix this? have a great day!

Sorry, no, a screenshot would not help me help you. You need to share links of examples where it is not working.

for example my latest post here, it is not working, but only when on mobile: https://paulinaontheroad.com/best-movies-set-in-spain/ – it doesn’t work on any blog post when on mobile

It seems the theme is adding its own hamburger menu to ezTOC.

This is breaking ezTOC ability to function normally. You’ll have to contact the theme’s support team to have them resolve the issue as other elements on the page should not be affected when adding the hamburger menu. My guess is they are assuming the mobile nav element is going to be the only nav element on the page which would be an incorrect assumption as a nav element is the proper element to use for a TOC for SEO purposes.

    I hope this helps!

Hello, many thanks for your kind reply. I reached out to them and they say I should move away from your plugin. However, I like using it so far.

They say also that I should look for a different solution since, ezTOC is because:

    1. the plugin uses javascript
    2. it doesn’t use underscores between words, which as a general practice makes all words count as a single word – ezTOC does this (hyphens should be used, not underscores)

What do you think? Is there a way to resolve this?

    Many thanks,

    Steven

    RE: the plugin uses javascript

hmmm… honestly I can not thing of a response to that. That would be me like saying you should not use the theme because it uses JavaScript.

RE: it doesn’t use underscores between words, which as a general practice makes all words count as a single word – ezTOC does this

not exactly sure what the point is of this statement or what it is referring to. Really that has nothing to do with the issue you are experiencing.

My best guess is they do not seem to like that the TOC links are created using underscores (which is perfectly acceptable). If that is an issue for the theme, on the Table of Contents Settings admin page, if you scroll to the Advanced section, you can toggle the option to use hyphens instead. But, this will do nothing to solve the issue for you.

I still stand by my original guess is that the javascript in the theme interacts with all nav elements on the page instead of just the theme nav. If that is the case, I am really sorry, but there really is nothing I can do to resolve this for you as a change would need to be made to the theme’s javascript.

Something you can try, on the Table of Contents Settings admin page, disable the “Toggle View” option. That may or man not help. Unfortunately I do not think it will. If that fails, then not using ezTOC is about the best solution. Perhaps try TOC+. If I remember correctly, it does not use a nav element. But, if I remember correctly, that reduces the SEO benefit of having a TOC.

Sorry I do not have a better answer or solution!

Is there a way to disable the javascript in ezTOC?

On the Table of Contents Settings admin page, disable the “Toggle View” option.

Hello dear, many thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I have to keep toggle view, that’s what my ad provider told me. is there not a different way to disable javascript?

    Steven

    (@shazahm1hotmailcom)

The toggle view requires the use of javascript. It can not be done in any other way.
