Support » Fixing WordPress » Not have categories organised in alphabetical order

  • Hi there,

My categories are currently appearing in alphabetical order and I was wondering if there might be a way of changing this so that I could manually organise these? Would someone be able to help me with this please?

I am using a Woo Theme if that helps 🙂

    Thanks in advance!

  • Would really appreciate any help on this!

    You mean in the backend?

So when you go into Appearances -> Menus, the section for Categories is currently listed alphabetically. If I can change this in the backend, the website will automatically reflect this. I hope that make sense?

You should be able to change the order of the menu by dragging and dropping elements in different places, regardless of the alphabetical order. It’s true that wordpress lists categories and tags alphabetically, but that shouldn’t affect the order of your menu.

    Hi Florence,

    Thanks for your reply!

I can change the position of each type of menu, but not there is no drag and drop option for the actual items in the menu unfortunately. Would you suggest that this might be a code issue?

For example, you see http://www.studentbusinessreview.co.uk, you will see the categories across the top (Business, Economics etc..) these are under the categories menu in WordPress. And I’d like to be able to arrange them manually rather than alphabetically.

Hm I don’t know.. I’ve never come across this issue. You’re sure you can’t drag and drop like so http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrJuV6CUxlc ?

    Hi Florence,

Thank you for the video but the menu’s actually do drag and drop, it’s the content inside the menu that I would like to edit the order of.

Hah I feel like such an idiot because I just don’t know what you mean :p I give up! I’ll give some else a go

No don’t worry! Thank you for trying 🙂

Anyone else able to crack this one?

    Try creating a custom menu.
