My initial impression is that WordPress is making a huge mistake. This new editor just being the start, will WordPress make itself so hard to use that everybody moves on to something else? I’ve already got a love/hate relationship with WordPress, and the direction that it’s headed doesn’t seem good at all.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. Can I ask what if anything you do like about the new editor? What direction do you feel would be better to go in?

There is nothing about the new editor that I like. If you were just changing the editor itself, I still think you’re making a mistake, but you’re going beyond the editor.

If the editor itself is the focus of what’s found lacking, and if it is said to be keeping more people from using WordPress, then an editor like the Avia Layout Builder would surely be more useful, and I think it would attract more people to WordPress. It’s full featured, and handles content blocks in a way that can make sense to anyone.

Among devs, as I’m sure you know, WordPress is well known for being a sluggish beast, following nothing close to the MVC architecture that most of use prefer. Database normalization is practically non-existent. Not sure how things are coming along, but in the past I would say WordPress is a great example of how not to code, being practically the definition of spaghetti code. If WordPress as a whole wanted devs to love it more, then fixing this stuff would be great. That’s the direction I’d go in, starting with the database.
