Support » Plugin: WP Visual Sitemap » Not following a menu structure?

    Hello,

The sitemaps look nice but they simply list all pages as they appear in pages listing in Dashboard and that’s not really very helpful…

Is there a way to display the actual menu structure of a website, based on active menu?

Hi John, there is no support for this in the current version. It’s a nice idea though, so I’d be happy to look at adding this feature for a future version.

    Thanks Martin!

I tested many visual sitemaps, WP and non-WP and they all seem to work the same way as yours and it’s a pity. Although this is probably the standard behavior, there is a real need for having a graphical representation of the site’s structure. Having a sitemap with all pages/sub-pages is one thing but having a graphic representation of the site’s public structure is another.

You may argue that this already done by clicking on menu items but it’s not the same as having that whole structure, with menus and sub-menu items, laid on a single page, horizontally or vertically, depending of the site.

This somehow exists already in backend, under Appearance/Menu but it’s very basic and not really usable as such for a graphical representation that recreates a frontend end horizontal menu with vertical sub-items.

I don’t really know what this would represent work wise but it would certainly bring your plugin a real added value.

Just my 2 cents and thanks for your work so far.

Hi John, new version available now. If you pass in a “menu” attribute in the shortcode it will display the menu instead of the site pages. eg – [wp_visual_sitemap menu=”my menu”]

    Great!

    Just tested and works nicely.
    Many thanks for your work!

    Hi,

Does not accept a “space” in the menu name. Not sure why error message has two “” together.

    [wp_visual_sitemap menu=”Top Menu”]
WPVS WARNING: Sorry, menu “”Top” does not exist

    [wp_visual_sitemap menu=”Mobile Menu”]
WPVS WARNING: Sorry, menu “”Mobile” does not exist

    Hi,

This Installation instruction indicates a Space is allowed:

Use the “menu” attribute to display a visual sitemap of a menu of your choice, e.g. [wp_visual_sitemap menu=”my menu”]

If you copied and pasted the shortcode from the installation instructions you may have brought over the formatting of the double quotes from the wordpress.org site.

Try just typing the shortcode again with normal double quotes around the menu name. That should fix it.

    Hi,

OK, that makes the map appear on the page: https://psian.org/visual-site-map/

However, adding the Menu option changed nothing. As you can see the various site maps have no relationship to the menu of pages. Some of the displayed pages are not in any menu. The resulting sitemap is the same regardless of the specified Menu, there is no indenting and it looks nothing like the screenshot displayed in the plugin Detail Description.

The visual sitemap page is not in any menu and is displayed.

    Hi,

I copied the short code from the dashboard settings panel and that works.

Still don’t see the icons in the mobile menu items, but that is not very important.

    Thanks,
    Larry
