Support » Plugin: Broken Link Checker » Not finding a link inside widgets

    Dear Plugin Creators,

I have a problem with configuring links, which are embedded (as “a” tag with href) within widgets. All other link are discovered, but the embedded ones are not.

The plugin I use doesn’t use any kind of ajax. The a-hrefs are inflated directly.

Do you have any suggestions, how I might overcome the issue? All checkboxes in the advanced tab are checked.

    Best,
    Marcin

    Hi @marje93

I hope you are doing good today.

I think I do not fully understand your workflow. I try to replicate this on my lab site but possibly I make something wrong as this is 3rd party plugin (https://wordpress.org/plugins/visual-link-preview/).

From what I see when I insert a “Visual Link Preview” of any of my post in the page content that plugin generates a box which includes A href around that box.
As soon I delete my post from the site, this box still exists but without A href. So “Visual Link Preview” plugin acts good by updating the box (removing A href) and the “Broken Link Checker” plugin is not able to find any broken link on site as the first plugin updated that.

I also cannot see any kind of feature in that plugin to place a box in widgets on site.

Please let me know did I skipped something and clarify steps more so I could replicate this as well.

    Kind Regards,
    Kris

    Hi @wpmudevsupport13

Thank you for the fast response. My bad, it wasn’t a widget but a block on the post page.

    The flow is as follows:

    1. I’m creating a new Post
    2. I’m adding a Visual Link Preview block on my post (e.g. https://gmail.com)
    3. Post is saved and published.
    4. Broken Link Checker does not list any gmail.com link
    5. Even “re-fetch all links” doesn’t include that gmail.com link.

I tried to debug if it’s something wrong with that block, but it seems there’s no async loading. It’s just div with a href inside.

If I add a link normally, as an inline link – Broken Link Checker notices that link and checks its’ availability. Moreover, Broken Link Checker list all images inserted by Visual Link Preview, but not the hrefs.

    Best regards,
    Marcin

    Hello there @marje93

I tried to replicate and whatever options I select, these custom links don’t seem to be crawlable as they are not being checked at all, so I created a task for the BLC team to further examine this. If there’s any development on this, we’ll keep you posted here.

    Thank you,
    Dimitris
