• Easy? No way! After spending half a day on your site, i still don’t even know what word press does! Are you a web host? someone to buy a domain name from? software to design a website? Every other paragraph states HOW EASY IT IS!!!
what is the difference between wordpress.org and wordpress.com? Are you the same? the same logo is on the page. But one says it wont let you upload or change themes and the other does. I just don’t get it!
Yes…It would be easy if you understand SQL, HTML,URL, mapping, redirecting, hosting, etc…..
I am utterly confused. I thought I could just choose a theme and ACTIVATE. NOT! There are tabs missing in dashboard. But the tabs are displayed in your directions and on directions posted on youtube! I had to find out on youtube that the tabs will be missing until you pay for something. But what to pay for…I don’t know…a domain name? hosting? the software? folks on youtube said they paid and bought a domain name from wordpress and they couldnt find the tabs either. Instructions state click here to install wordpress, but it opens a new explorer tab with code! then it says upload it all. What is “it”? and where and how do i upload “it”?

On google I searched to see if other people were upset that it was not easy. apparantly wordpress is so hard to understand and get going that official wordpress partners no longer offer help or support because they are tired of the same old questions. wordpress support is non existant because it is as cryptic as the main instructions. I am so dissapointed I wasted my time today. i would have rather cut my own teeth out with a hacksaw!

    In my humble opinion…wordpress sucks.

  • Judging from your post, you should probably start with WordPress.com. Once you have a better understanding and need something that cannot be done with WordPress.com, you can consider to run a self-hosted version of WordPress, which would be WordPress.org.

So, in a nutshell: WordPress.com is a service providing WordPress sites to its users. WordPress.org is a software that you can download and install on a web server or hosting account of your choice.

After spending half a day on your site, i still don’t even know what word press does! Are you a web host? someone to buy a domain name from? software to design a website?

If you don’t know what it does, why are you freaking out? It can’t be very important if you have no idea what it’s for. What it is, however, is a CMS (content management system) to build websites.

wordpress.com = Hosted for you. You create an account, log in, and start blogging. You cannot edit themes and have to choose from the limited themes available.

wordpress.org = You purchase a domain and hosting, download the WP software by clicking the link at the top right of this page, and follow the very easy instructions (which are included) to install it.

Yes…It would be easy if you understand SQL, HTML,URL, mapping, redirecting, hosting, etc.

It IS easy. Takes a few minutes to install and you can start blogging right away but yes, if you want anything other than the vanilla default theme, you’ll have to learn these things. If you don’t want to learn about those things you should use WP.com. If you use them you can ask questions at their forums here.

I thought I could just choose a theme and ACTIVATE. NOT! There are tabs missing in dashboard. But the tabs are displayed in your directions and on directions posted on youtube!

Choose a theme from where? What tabs? Have you already installed WP or created an account at WP.com even though you have no idea what it’s for? You’re making no sense. You don’t know what it is and yet you have a dashboard?

I had to find out on youtube that the tabs will be missing until you pay for something.

No idea what you’re talking about. WordPress is free software.

WordPress support is non existant because it is as cryptic as the main instructions.

WordPress is supported by volunteers on these forums.

Instructions state click here to install wordpress, but it opens a new explorer tab with code!

Instructions for what? In Fantastico? Where are these instructions?

Then it says upload it all. What is “it”? and where and how do i upload “it”?

The WordPress files. To your webhost using an FTP client.

    In my humble opinion…wordpress sucks.

How do you know it sucks since you don’t even know what it is or what it’s used for?

Just an observation… if you’d clicked the “about” link at the top of the page, it tells you in the first paragraph what WordPress is.

Those are good answers from people who are much more tolerant than I am. To be honest, I had to read that twice because it seemed like a troll post. Almost every sentence comes from left field.

If it’s a genuine bash post, then IMO, elegantvideos isn’t ready to run his own site. I know not everything is intuitive to everyone but if there’s so much confusion about WP then good luck on other platforms.

There are some very good answers here, but you sound really frustrated and probably need to start at square one, with a good tutorial. If you check the Warrior Forum, there are often tutorials for really low cost. But I would suggest ChrisFarrellMembership.com for really good help on hundreds of topics and you can get a trial membership for 4.95 – money well spent! I hope that helps.

…Or you could just go ahead and simply take 30 minutes or so to look over at least some of the basic documentation. You’ll find pictures and everything…

    Getting Started with WordPress

apparantly wordpress is so hard to understand and get going that official wordpress partners no longer offer help or support because they are tired of the same old questions.

My 13 year old niece has no problem setting it up by herself on remote hosting. I guess it must just comes down to an individual level of comprehension and desire to learn, or something.

No matter… I think I’m really leaning toward the same initial thought as Gabe had on this one. After reading it twice, it still really just feels like a troll post to me. There’s just too much subtext going on for it to be legit. Just my opinion, mind you. 🙂

[edit] oops!… almost forgot. This is one of the links on the very first page of the documentation: About WordPress. Notice item one on that page is “What is WordPress“.
