Host server has all the latest Apache and PHP updates

I’m your biggest fan… After using this plugin for about a year, I can’t imagine working without it. Many visitors have examined my site to admire the powerful sidebars:

The Bad News is that I may have to give it up for my forums site…

In a sub-domain sandbox, I’m setting up forums with bbPress [new to me]. Since I need only one navigation sidebar for all pages, I decided to make a custom sidebar for it.

WOW! Instead of a fixed menu appearance, I could control font formating, colors, etc. like a champ! It works perfectly for pages:

The downside is that when one opens a “topic” page, the perfect custom sidebar is replaced by a tiny frame containing a full-page 404 Error Notice, **as if I had tried to view the sidebar itself.** It looks like this:

At first, I thought the problem was TablePress [also new to me], so I contacted the author. He noticed that the HTML involving the Custom Sidebar invokes a microsoft office product:

He assured me that “user-added text” was causing the problem and advised that it would work properly if corrected as:

This makes no sense to me because there are no embedding/plugins installed at this site.

When the Custom Sidebar plugin is deactivated, the problem disappears. Can it be fixed? If not, can you recommend a workaround or an alternate plugin?

Good News!

I found a second plugin that, when used together with yours (for creating lovely formatted sidebar content), works with bbPress posts.

In case others have a similar problem, this is the solution:

Despite the similar name, it does not address sidebar content. It manages where existing sidebars are displayed, and it does it right.

No, that can’t be! I also use bbpress and I don’t have some trouble. What the plugin does is only to create an new post type.
My plugin has nothing to to with the HTML iframe code you have posted above.

Use what you want, but ‘Custom Sidebars’ (the other plugin) is really not handy for huge sites and much content 😉

An update…

Where the iframe code “came from” is an eternal mystery. Of course I believe that you didn’t write it, and I wouldn’t know how to write it. Furthermore, the site concerned is a sub-domain strictly for forums–there are no embedded objects and no plug-ins for managing them in the host directory.

Apparently the Strange, Ugly Thing was accidentally “conjured” as if some “cyber wires” crossed.

On advice of another developer, I managed to “correct” the syntax as he suggested. Believe it or not, the tiny frame then displayed a Microsoft-generated financial graph totally unrelated to my site about 19th-century printing types. I have never used this “cloud” service.

Immediately after using the Custom Sidebars plug-in to display the custom navigation sidebar on bbPress pages, the iframe code was “exorcised.”

Now the custom navigation sidebar magically works as you intended on all bbPress pages with or without a second plug-in.

What a relief–the usual menu solution (26 lines for letters A-Z) would be dreadful!

Some things may never make sense, huh?

Now I have a related problem…

Besides the perfect custom navigation sidebar now displayed on every page and bbPress post positioned in the outer sidebar widget area, I sometimes need a SECOND custom sidebar with unique text and graphic content positioned in the inner sidebar widget area. For example, the static “home” page:

Can you suggest a strategy or a supplementary plug-in? I have tried [and so far failed] with these:

Problem solved!

I found another way to widgetize the navigation menu to display on all pages and bbPress posts:

Now I can assign unique custom sidebars built with your plug-in to specific pages as before:

Finally… Back to business as usual!
