• Hi all,

I have been running this photojournal for quite a long time (Almost three years), and am using WordPress 1.5 as the platform.

    THE SCENARIO
On the whole, the photojournal is only mostly open to viewing by registered members, with a small collection of entries available for the public to view. Commenting is restricted to registered members only.

Additionally, it has almost negligible traffic since I do not promote it that much.

Hence, my question is, is it safe for me to retain WordPress 1.5 as my platform? (Was it a stable release back then?)

Due to the countless modifications and personalizations I did to my copy of WordPress 1.5 in that photojournal, it will be a great hassle to upgrade, and hence I put off doing so for such a long time. 😛

    Seeking advice!

    Thanks muchos, everyone!

    Cheers,
    Brenda

  • It was stable, yes. But it did have some security “issues”….

    Thanks vkaryl. (:

Just wondering, are there any major security issues regarding that release that I should take note of?

Well, IIRC, the issues were fairly severe. And that’s about all I can say/remember…. there was a “1.5.1.3” version in dev (I *think*) that would have mitigated some of the security issues in the 1.5 trunk. I don’t know if it was ever “finished”.

My advice would be to upgrade, redoing the customizations – regardless that it’s painful and time consuming. Alternative: continue with your current version, but spend as many hours as are necessary living with/reading thoroughly/digging into and through your access logs.

    I know which one I’d opt for….

If you’re living on the edge, make off-site backups of your files, theme, and your mysql database… so if something happens to your site, you could probably restore it.

I upgraded my sites to WP2… but sometimes wish I still had all my customizations I had in 1.5. Didn’t bother to transfer some of them, or didn’t remember how.
