Support » Fixing WordPress » Not all photos imported with wordpress.com transfer

  • I transferred my blog from wordpress.com to wordpress.org last weekend. When I initially did the import, the site kept throwing 500 errors. After talking with the hosting company and trying the import a couple more times, the site was up, including what appeared to be all the images.
Not all my images from my wordpress.com blog (1,600+) displayed in the wordpress.org media library, however I was able to see images from a few posts on my laptop, so I assumed everything transferred okay.

Fast forward to few days later, I was on a friends computer finishing up a post, when I realized that all the posts written BEFORE the week I transferred, all had broken images (blasted caching on my laptop browser!). I transferred the blog on a Saturday and all the images transferred for posts written during that week, starting on Monday, but no images on posts written before had transferred.

My media file ULR from the wp.com blog are (https://burpees4breakfast.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/allabouthebass.jpg) but the files for the wp.org blog are (http://http://www.burpeesforbreakfast.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/4c57d642eb517d316461e31ad2e0d662.jpg).

I noticed that the images displaying in my media library are from my first few posts – back in August of 2013, however, they are not showing that they are ‘uploaded to’ any post. The URL for these images does show (http://www.burpeesforbreakfast.com/wp-content/uploads…) when I view them in the media library, but the image does not display on the post when viewed by an anon user.
When I go to the actual post and look at the HTML, the image URL shows (http://burpees4breakfast.files.wordpress.com/2013/10…).

I tried the import again (1 week after the transfer) twice, and it displayed a LONG list of failed imports. It did show that the images in my media library on the wp.org blog already exist, however, the images still did not attach to a post.

Any tips on the easiest way to get all the images to display without having to upload all the images to my media library? I read some posts about a search-and-replace product. Should I do a redirect from wp.com?

Your host probably had PHP script execution time limits which are set low. The not all photos can be downloaded before that timer runs out.

So, Brad, is there a way to set the PHP script time limits to be higher? If they are higher, will that allow the photos to be added to specific posts?
