Support » Plugin: Subscribe2 » Not adding subscribers or sending email preview

  • Hi there,

I have used this plugin on many sites before with no issues but can’t seem to get it working now on my new site. I have installed the plugin and activated it, created a page for it to redirect to after clicking submit and added the widget to my homepage, however, when I try sending an email preview I get no email and when I subscribe using the widget, the email address I type doesn’t receive an email and no address appears in the subscribers list. I am using version Version 10.12 of the plugin.

Any ideas what could be the problem? I don’t believe it is host related as I have been using it on the test site ( for months and now that I have installed it on the live site today ( it appears to no longer function.

  • I have just tested the websites email by using a plugin called “check email” and the email was sent and delivered successfully.

These 2 sites must be located on the same server which pretty much rules out a server side setting issue so I suspect it’s something in terms of a plugin conflict, a plugin being missing on one site or a configuration issue.

Try working through the suggestions here:
    Troubleshooting emails in Subscribe2

I think I have found the issue but I’m not sure if anything can be done to fix it.

I tried Twenty Fourteen theme and Subscribe2 worked, so I then tried my theme without the child theme (I’m using Divi from Elegant Themes) and it worked perfectly fine, then I enabled my Divi child theme and it no longer works, I then deleted everything from my Divi child theme except the style.css file with the content below and still didn’t work:

    Theme Name: Divi Child Theme
    Description: Child theme for Divi
    Template: Divi
    @import url("../Divi/style.css");

It seems for some reason it doesn’t want to work with the child theme. I did create a Twenty Fourteen child theme and it seemed to work with that. I’m baffled!

Ok, I seem to have discovered something very interesting, Subscribe2 doesn’t seem to work with my child theme if the page it is being displayed on is set as the static front page under reading settings, however, if I change to the original Divi theme it doesn’t have an issue with the static front page and works fine.

Could this be something corrupt in the DB or something weird like that?

Please disregard my last post as I’ve created a fresh website to test with and added the Divi theme with no modifications, here are the results I found:

    • If I change “Set default Subscribe2 page as” it stops working.
    • If I set “Post form content to page” under the widget options, it also stops working.

This appears to be a conflict between the theme and the plugin, as when I switch to Twenty Fourteen these issues go away. Is there any way to resolve this if it’s between the theme and plugin?

The Divi theme is paid access so I presume you get some support with it also. As Subscribe2 is open source the authors of your theme can look at the source while I cannot look at theirs. Try raising this with the theme developers noting that Subscribe2 works perfectly well with core WordPress themes.

    Hi mattyrob,

I contacted the Elegant Themes support but I received the response that they cannot guarantee compatibility with third party plugins. Is there any chance I could send you the Divi theme for you to take a look to see if there would be any fix for this? I do realize that this is not your issue to deal with so feel free to tell me no.

Since you have done a lot of investigating yourself and you appreciate that this is beyond the scope of supporting Subscribe2 I will take a look for you. I can’t make any guarantees obviously as coding themes is not a core skill area for me but I’ll take a look in the next few weeks. Contact me here.
