Support » Plugin: Quick Cache (Speed Without Compromise) » Not activated with php 5.3

  • Wanting to return to Quick Cache and I was happy to see you took over support. 🙂

I installed Quick Cache but received the error “Plugin NOT active. This version of Quick Cache requires PHP v5.3+”. So I upgraded to PHP 5.3 and I still get the error. I have the option to upgrade to 5.4 but would rather not as I have some older, non-wordpress pages and not sure if there would be issues.

Should Quick Cache work with 5.3, or only 5.4? Thanks!

  • Actually, I had several deprecated functions in my non-WP dynamic pages that I don’t have time to rework so I guess I won’t be able to use Quick Cache. Any reason why you rewrote it to require 5.3? It worked great before (was just nervous about no support at the time).

The plugin was rewritten with the PHP 5.3+ requirement because several PHP 5.3+ features were used in the rewriting to keep things fast and the code clean and maintainable.

If you have PHP 5.3 installed, then you definitely shouldn’t be getting that error message. Have you tried deactivating and deleting Quick Cache and then reinstalling it?

If that doesn’t work, could you please create and upload a test.php file with <?php echo PHP_VERSION; ?> as the contents and tell me what it says?

I’m having this same issue. It didn’t work at first when I tried it last December, so I had my server people upgrade to php 5.3, then activated the plugin, but still didn’t work. So I deleted the plugin, then re-installed, but still no dice, so I went back to the old version, but am now interested in fiddling with it again. 🙂

    Here’s my php info:

    root@host [~]# php -v

*Edit: Ah, I see. After talking it over with my server people, they said it’s because they forgot to register the php change in litespeed, so even though php 5.3 was installed on my machine ages ago, litespeed was still using 5.2. Will update to see if that fixes it.

**Edit2: Yep, that fixed it. Thanks for all your work on this plugin. It’s the best general cache plugin out there. 🙂

@awesometastic1 Thanks for the update and for sharing the solution! I’ll be sure to recommend checking for that to anyone who experiences this issue in the future. 🙂

@atdblog Is it possible your issue is related to something like what @awesometastic1 described?
