Album page and gallery page both use custom templates which are referenced via the usual shortcode. Both templates have been placed in theme/nggallery folder.

Album and galleries work great on staging server, but when pushed live, the Galleries page gets the error [Not a valid template].
Note – the initial ALBUM page linking to the individual GALLERY page with the error works fine. It is ONLY happening on the GALLERY page.

Seems this is a very common issue and unresolved bug going back years.

If I modify my shortcode to use an absolute URL, template fails. If I use any combination of other paths, template fails.

WHy does this work on a staging server and not on a live server?
I have tried all of the usual responses – reset gallery, reset image cache, changed name of templates and re-referenced.

Why does this only happen on the GALLERY page and not the ALBUM page?

@lowercase001 – Please try our external Reset Tool plugin here: https://bitbucket.org/photocrati/nextgen-gallery-reset/get/default.zip

To install and activate, go to Plugins > Add New … Upload Plugin
To use, go to Tools > NextGEN Gallery Reset

We do not offer specific support for the Reset Tool plugin as is but it can help in many circumstances, please let us know if it does.

    Thanks!

Unfortunately we are on a global multi-site install and can’t install unknown plugins.
besides, it seems counter-intuitive to install a plugin, then be required to download and install a secondary plugin to make the first one function properly.

Any other suggestions? We had hoped to utilize Nextgen across dozens of major sites, but we keep running into this basic hurdle. which means we may have to abandon it.

This template bug that seems to have existed for quite some time, still remains an issue.
Would love to get some more assistance on this and try to help locate the issues.

From what I can see – the easiest fix would be to allow the setting of the template path for galleries (in addition to the albums) via shortcode. At least then we could be sure the right template is being used.

@lowercase001 – Make certain that NextGEN Gallery is Network activated then use the Reset Option from within the plugin (its the same basic code as the Reset Tool plugin).

I suspect the migration, as if often the case, has not correctly addressed the internal path/routing NextGEN Gallery uses and often times the Reset Tool is required to update and correct those cases as it puts the plugin to what its default installation would be on the server based on its current environment.

    Thanks!

As mentioned in the original post, we tried that and it had no effect.

Any other ideas? Seems to m this is a really simple issue?

If you can set up a template for both the album AND gallery pages, then surely you need the ability to target both the album AND gallery template you want to use?

@lowercase001 – Please share the generated shortcode for the display you are having troubles with?

Hi! I have same issue here. I migrated the multi site to a new server and tried to update, reset and use your tool but no luck, still getting the [Not a valid template]. any solution for this?
