I want to insert a simple TOC at top of the referenced page, using L2 headings. I’ve installed Easy TIC. I want to not use the autoinsert function. The plugin FAQ says only “Scroll down on the page you’ll see a metabox named “Table of Contents“, enable the Insert table of contents option and Update and/or Publish you page.”

I dont know what a metabox is, but I certainly don’t see any TOC option to enable.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Please navigate to the Table of Contents settings admin page and make sure the TOC is enabled for the post type you wish to use it on. For example, the page or Post post type, or both.

Next, edit the page that you wish to insert the TOC on.

Scroll to the sections of settings shown after the area you type your content.

These sections are called metaboxes. Depending on the plugins/theme you have installed you could have many of these sections.

One of these will be for the Table of Contents. In that section of the settings, at the top, there will be an option to insert the TOC, enable that option and save the post.

    I hope this helps!

well that sort of worked. the TIC appeared- twice. see http://www.incumetrics.com/articles

I tried not specifying H2 only in the page settings (metabox!!) ut that removed the TIC entirely. It’s set for pages and H2 only in the main app settings

    RE: the TIC appeared- twice

You have, two, TOC plugins installed. I recommend choosing one and deactivating the other.

RE: I tried not specifying H2 only in the page settings (metabox!!) ut that removed the TIC entirely.

You need to select it h2, not deselected it to have only h2 for TOC items.

Weirdly, deactivating the only visible easy TOC plugin appears to solve that problem.

One more question – and thanks again or such excellent support – the link from the TOC takes me to a spot on the page that is in the linked section, but is too low on the page to see the section header. Is there any fix for that?

Sorry, but you are no longer using ezTOC; you’ll have to contact the other plugin’s support team for help with the scroll position and the theme’s static header.

OK that’s the prob then. I tried theirs when I could not get yours to work. Going to switch back right now. and again, thanks for the help.

If you switch back, please navigate to the Table of Contents settings admin page, scroll to the Advanced sections and change the smooth scroll offset option to 80 and save the change.

OK switched back – but still have this location problem – link takes me to the section, but not the top of the section. it in fact specifically shops the first paragraph in the section, but the section title is hidden by the main nav bar.

the offset worked, though it needed 12opx.

I’d like to donate for your work on this – really helpful. how do I do that?
