none of what i type in “visual” comes out in “page preview”

everything i type into the visual area of the code gets mutated in the final product of the page. if i insert any sort of spaces, they are never saved. also, the menu changes so that it’s at the bottom randomly and cuts off a bunch of what i’ve written. help please!!!
