    Hello,

All 3 of the forms that I created with Contact 7 over the past several months are no longer working properly.

Whenever I fill out the form and click ‘Send,’ I receive the following message: YOUR MESSAGE WAS SENT SUCCESSFULLY” (WITH A GREEN BORDER). However, I never receive any email.

I tried deactivating all of my plugins (except Contact 7) and then filled out and sent the forms. Didn’t work.

Next, I checked with my email provider to see if it was their mail server that killed my emails before they reached my inbox. Nope, no luck there, either.

I even accessed and filled out the form on another web browser. Zero luck.

I filled out the forms a dozen times, and while I always received a successful sent message, I never received any emails.

Any help you could provide would be deeply appreciated. Thanks for all the hard work you put into this plugin, including the support team!

Ok…. so why is an SMTP plugin not an option then?

Hmmm…I thought since I configured the SMTP port for the GD email on my Outlook account that I wouldn’t need a separate SMTP plugin in WordPress?

So WordPress ships with mail set to go to localhost @ port 25. This assumes your localhost has a mail server on port 25 and that it works.

I’m suggesting you instead have WordPress send mail to relay-hosting.secureserver.net on port 25, it’s an internal GoDaddy SMTP server.

The only way to get WordPress to do this is to install an SMTP plugin into WordPress and configure it.

This doesn’t have anything to do with Outlook 2013 POPping into GoDaddy to retrieve your email.

The only outgoing mail from my WP sites come from my contact forms. (At least to my knowledge.)

You’re probably missing the auto-upgrade notification emails from your site. Also you will lose the Password Reset email if WordPress ever tried to send one (though since you’re hosted at GoDaddy, that’s not really a problem since you can login directly with the Manage Website page).

Ah! OK. Gotcha. Can you make a recommendation for the best SMTP plugin on WP?

    Already did 😉 https://wordpress.org/plugins/postman-smtp/ I wrote it.

Thank you! Ha! Fingers crossed this plugin works. If it doesn’t I guess I know who to contact for help. 🙂

    Thanks for your help, Jason!

OK, I’m baaaaaaaaaack. So I set up the plugin and received this message:

    Postman is configured.

Postman will send mail via SMTPS to smtpout.secureserver.net:465 using Password (Plain) authentication. But the test email failed. I checked my current settings on Outlook, and the outgoing mail server port was already set for 465?

    I’m so confused.

This is longer a Contact Form 7 issue, btw, but I hate moving threads so …

    But the test email failed.

Look in the Email Log under the Tools menu. Please copy and paste the exact error message.

So, I am assuming that I need to reconfigure the account in Outlook to reflect 465, correct?

Not at all. Sending mail has nothing to do with reading mail. They’re different protocols (SMTP vs POP/IMAP) that do different things. The only thing they have in common is the message itself.

Here is the exact error message under ‘Status.’

    Authentication Failed for brandregina

Thanks for not moving the thread…

That means your name and password are incorrect.

Yep, you’re right. I went ahead and corrected that info. and received the test email! However, when I filled out my contact form and pressed ‘send’, I received the below error message (with a red border):

“Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.”

Look in the Email Log under the Tools menu. Please copy and paste the exact error message.

    Hey Jason,

Guess what? I finally figured out the problem. WOO-HOO! I realized the issue when I went to look for the error message, per your instructions. The mail tab showed the ‘From’ section as [your-name] [your-email] instead of my GoDaddy email address. I must have forgotten to save my update.

Anyway, I changed it back, saved the change. filled out the form, pressed send and Voila! Finally received the email.

Thank you so much for all of your help on this, and for creating a great SMTP plugin. 🙂 I couldn’t have done this without you. I’ll bookmark this thread so I can return to it later on if I need to.

My pleasure. Please mark as resolved.
