• Hi
I am new to WordPress, so it will be difficult for me to phrase this question properly.
I suppose I am looking for theme or plugin that would get me near the following:

I want to have a site that has users/members, that can log in and create new posts, possibly edit their old posts.
I do not want them anywhere near the admin page.
Preferably, I would prefer if they didn’t have to have a WordPress account – just a site membership account.
So it would be a site with a few pages, one per user, and the user can go to a login page, login, edit/create posts.
All users can see all pages.
So these members would be similar to an Author role, but not have any access to the WordPress backend.

    Does that make sense?
I have tried a few plugins but they all seems to still require that each user is a WordPress member.

    Thanks for nay info, suggestions.

    Garrett

They’ll need an account on your site. I don’t know if that’s what you mean by a “WordPress member.” You might want to look into themes/plugins that provide front-end editing. Then they don’t need to see the back-end at all.

    Yes I will thanks.
Essentially this is what I want to do:
My company website, I want 6 people to be able to login, edit/create posts, and for these posts to be displayed on their own page (i.e. 6 pages). There will be other static pages, and the whole world can view all pages.
I don’t want anyone except me to see/access the admin pages, or any backend wordpress stuff.
I am able to code, but for this website I really want to use existing themes/plugins so I can hand it off to someone else in the future.

I don’t want anyone except me to see/access the admin pages, or any backend wordpress stuff.

Any user can see the back end as long as they are logged in – but they will only see the optons that are available to their access level. As an example, subscribers can update their own account, authors can write posts (but not poste them themselves), etc. As long as you don’t give the users permissions above what they need there’s no issue with them seeing the administration area at all.

Thank you all for your replies.
I am thinking now that I didn’t really make myself clear.
    My apologies 🙁

I am looking for a solution that possibly does NOT involve WordPress membership.
Imagine if Facebook was designed by using WordPress (maybe it is?…).
To join Facebook, you don’t ever get to know/see WordPress .
    You get a ‘Facebook account’.

So I would like a site that has members, but not using WordPress accounts – and the members NEVER having to know the site is a WordPress site.
Obviously all this could be coded, but I’ve been down that road a few years back with a different site, and this time I am looking to take advantage of existing themes/plugins.

I don’t mind paying for a solution – the only issue I have with that is that you don;t always get to test drive the premium themes/plugins.

So any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thank you for your time reading this.

Unless you want to create your own membership system, you are always going to use tehe ready-made and built-in WordPress members system. To be honest, trying to make your own is a pretty silly idea when everything that you’ll need is already built in.

I’d suggest looking at something like s2member as that does pretty much what you want. You can set users to be redirected away from the admin area, and set up landing pages for account settings etc. It still works through the standard members sytem.

    Thanks catacaustic

Indeed, I do not want to redesign the wheel, so I will definitely check out s2member.

    Thanks
