I confess, I am a more than a little bit frustrated by the number of WordPress themes (installed through the admin back end) that are simply not fit for purpose.

The issues range from terrible user interfaces/customisation options, poor coding (ie. lack of responsive images or terrible short code implementations), inflexible layout options (ie. fancy-dan featurs that will only deploy on the home page, nowhere else in the site), poor or non-existant support and so on.

I appreciate that WordPress has not perhaps been conceived to ensure that so much dross makes it to the market place, but surely it is about time that someone put a stop to some of the chaff masquerading as usable themes and plugins!

My frustrations start with the fact that every developer seems to want to re invent the wheel in the manner in which their theme is customised and set up.

The net result is that I have tried dozens of themes, including many paid for themes and I as soon as I start trying to implement them or mod them, they start to unravel.

Perhaps WP needs to set up a new filter for users looking to install themes. Something like “Completely bomb-proof tried and tested, gold standard brilliant themes that just work properly”.

    #Grrrr!
