• The CVS says that support for the rel="nofollow" tag, that Google and others now support for comment links as a counter-spam-measure, has been added to WP.

Since i find no options for setting this in the prefs, i’m just wondering how this has been implemented. Is it now default, i.e. nofollow-plug-ins like wp-no-pagerank are no longer necessary?

From browsing the code i can not see right away how this is supposed to work…

  • Dirvish,

I must be using a different version than you – I found the code to be altered, in my version (1.5 Gamma 03/02/05), to be in comment-functions.php on line 174.

And checking 1.5 Gamma 08/02/05, I found it on line 173 of the same file.

Simply change rel=’external nofollow’ to rel=’external’ if you don’t want nofollow on your commenters links.

In my case, I’m happy to have nofollow off as I am very vigilant about spam (I custom write my .htaccess file and have Spam Karma installed so no spam is ever published on my site).

And I’m not sure I trust Google and how they are implementing the nofollow tag.

    Hope this helps,

    Tom

I note that Google have overhauled Blogger’s commenting system – now it allows non-Blogger account holders to comment leaving a name and uri instead of the previous Anonymous or Blogger account options.
However, Google hasn’t included the nofollow tag in it’s own Blogging software!
Anyone care to venture a guess on why this might be?
