Plugin announcement for Nofollow Case by Case:

Earlier this year I have written a small plugin for WordPress because for SEO aspects I needed a possibility to selectively manage links with rel="nofollow" using normal links ("follow links") by default.

A blog using rel="nofollow" by default is no blog for me. I definitely hate it to link to such blogs. Many others feel the same and stop linking to those offering trackback links that are worth absolutely nothing. This is bad for a network like the internet, bad for search engines and in the end its bad for everyone because search engines cant rank good things as they normally should be ranked.

On the other hand I needed a possibility to manage spam links with care in order to protect myself against loosing search engine trust rank. So I had to develop something that helps me to do that.

Nofollow Case by Case is from now on available within the new Plugins Directory including a small FAQ Section.

I would be glad if you use it and vote for it there. ;-)

    Just for reference being discussed.

Also note that there's evidence that some search engines like
MSN and A9 ignore nofollow and noindex anyway.

Thanks for this link. Very interesting.

In my opinion nofollow is a great tool to protect yourself against "hand made" spam. Since I let everybody know that I have a tool against spam and a sharp eye on it I defenetely have no problem anymore.

Let the people know that they waste their time with blog spamming and they will stop doing such things. The only thing you have to do is: "Be consequent and let them know about that!" ;-)

Regarding follow or nofollow: It is never a good idea to make a decision between black and white. It`s always better to stay more flexible. If you are not sure what to do with a link (delete it or not) add nofollow. Otherwise delete the link or keep it alive.

Regarding MSN and A9: Within Germany we are able to ignore them by now because Google serves around 90 percent of the search engine results. ;-)
