  • The metabox might be hidden. Open the Screen Options tab (top right) and under “Show on screen” place a checkmark at “XML Sitemap”

Oh hang on… you want to exlude the post from the Google News sitemap, not the normal xml sitemap? In that case, you’ll have to edit the publication date and make it older than 49 hours. It will then not show in the Google News sitemap anymore.

If it’s important, you can edit the publication date back to the original after two days…

So that option is not available for the news sitemap it sounds like you are saying? (The Screen Options tab does not have an option for “XML Sitemap” – I am only using the Google News sitemap function of the plugin.) Being a news publication, changing the date of an article I would like available to the public, but not the Google News Bot, is not a viable option. Thank you for your feedback.

OK I see why that metabox is not available to you now… It is true that currently you cannot exclude an individual post. This is planned for the next release.

At this point, you can do this: create a dedicated category for posts that you want to appear in the google news sitemap. Assign all posts from the last 2 days that you want to appear in the GN sitemap to that categorie. Then go to Settings > Reading and in the Google News Sitemap section under Categories select that same categorie. Save the options and check your news sitemap again.

Any post that is not included in any selected category should now not be shown there anymore.

Hope that is a useful work-around for now 🙂

Sounds like a good plan, thank you!
