Is there any way to make this plugin compatible with Buddypress? I use the Custom Community theme and another. I use CC theme for the social part of my site and the home page, and another theme for the posts, but this plugin doesn’t work with Buddypress. It brings up those “premature ending” messages. Is there a way I can edit the code to make it Buddypress friendly? Or is there a plugin similar to this one that will work with Buddypress?

Thank you for helping me with this!

  • BuddyPress is a real problem for this plugin. As I stated in another (very long) support thread:

A little research had me discover that the BuddyPress plugin uses about 900 Action and Filter “hooks”, including a fair number that intervene throughout the Theme processing process within WordPress. The jonradio Multiple Themes plugin just “doesn’t have a hope” of circumventing all those interventions.

I don’t know a lot about the other plugins that handle themes out there, so you may want to ask that question in a new support thread, rather than one like this which is attached to one plugin and only catches the attention of the Plugin Author.

What I can suggest is that you look seriously at using multiple WordPress “instances” to address your issue. Just so that BuddyPress runs all by itself as the only Theme on one WordPress.

You can do this with separate installations of WordPress or a Network (AKA MultiSite). In the simplest example, example.com might be your “all but BuddyPress” WordPress site, and example.com/forum might be the “BuddyPress-only” site. And you would have to hand-build your menus to link to both.

I’m sorry that I cannot easily resolve this issue for you.

Thank you for replying! I had no idea BuddyPress used so many codes. I was thinking of using WordPress Multisite when I first started customizing my site. I will look deeper into WordPress Multisite. Thank you again for replying. Hand-building the menus sounds easy, I think I can do that. Thank you again for replying, and your plugin is very awesome.

Quick question: what codes do I use to hand-build the menus so they link to both sites?

My reference to “hand-building a menu” was referring to this:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Menus_Screen#Create_a_Menu

You can place the menus you create using: http://codex.wordpress.org/Appearance_Widgets_Screen

Some themes also offer a way to replace their standard menu with your custom menu.

I will mark this as resolved. I decided to dump multisite and buddypress altogether and keep the plugin. I want to thank you for your help and I also want to thank you for the fantastic plugin. Thank you!

Thanks for the update. I’ve just found out that polylang is another popular plugin that has hundreds of hooks, and won’t work properly with jonradio Multiple Themes.

All the best with your site!
