No thumbnail when I cache locally

This worked when I was on AWS but I moved to Cloudways DO and it stopped working. I removed the plugin and reinstalled and that did not fix.

I’m also running WP Rocket and WP Rocket CDN if that matters. I have lazy load video turned off as I’m running mediavine and that messes with their ads (they told me)

Current WP YouTube Lyte settings:

Valid youtube API Key

Player Size: 853X480 (Larger 16:9 player)
Add links: Don’t add any links.
Player Position: Center
Force HD: No HD (default)
Add microdata: Yes (default)
Act on normal youtube links and iframes: No thanks. (to avoid mediavine conflicts)
Cache locally: Yes. (left it on while this ticket is being submitted)
Text to be added under every LYTE video: Blank

That’s a known issue at Cloudways I’m afraid, can you try the code snippet at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/local-thumbnails-caching-not-working/#post-12075411 as a workraound?

Added this using a code snippet plugin and it didn’t work for me, but I’ll send it to my wordpress support person and see if they can make this work. Thanks!

ah, but I’m getting a 403 forbidden from https://killerguitarrigs.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-youtube-lyte/lyteCache.php?origThumbUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fi.ytimg.com%2Fvi%2F9n6qSjfvRn0%2Fhqdefault.jpg, so that might also be a security measure (some security components block direct requests to .php files in wp-content/plugins/*

Add this to exclude in your varnish settings in the Cloudways dashboard.

/wp-content/plugins/wp-youtube-lyte/lyteCache.php

I was having problems again, so I was checking here for support. I then realized if you turn off Cloudways new option “direct php file access” the thumbnails will not work again. So you also have to keep PHP file access enabled.

Hey guys so I added the snippet, and updated the varnish setting and it still wasn’t working, so I reached out to Cloudways support and they got it working – I asked what he did and he said “I enabled the PHP direct file access for you from Application Settings”. So whatever combination of all of the above did the trick, it’s now working. Huzzah!

Hi all, I have the same issue, no thumbnail loaded with local cache enabled. Can you please guide me on how to enable local caching?

Calling /wp-content/plugins/wp-youtube-lyte/lyteCache.php I get error 403.

Do I need to change Wordfence settings or htaccess?

Can’t say for sure, it can be both (or something else, see Cloudways “PHP direct file access” mentioned above for example) so you’ll have to check which applies to you tungstene2
