We have checked it further and currently the fees are not taxable.
The option to make them taxable, like with shipping for example, is a feature we will consider adding, but there are no concrete short-term plans for it.
I will try to let you know when we know more about how or when we could add it. But for now, I will close this thread as we have documented all the information we need internally. Again, thanks for your feedback!

I have the exact same problem. We need to calculate tax over the payment surcharge in The Netherlands. This is causing problems with our accounting system..
Maybe it is a quick fix to make them taxable as default, and add the option to make it non-taxable in the future? Because it is compliant with the law to charge tax over the payment surcharge..
