No sidebar when reactions are turned off

I’m using theme VN-news 1.2.
As long as I allow reactions to a post, all is fine. But as soon as I turn off the option to react to a post, when you click the post to read the full content, the right sidebar drops to the bottom of the screen.

I’ve checked the code to see if maybe there is one or more </div> missing, but there isn’t. Anyone have any idea what could cause this layout problem?
