• Hi everyone,

I am starting with wordpress and have investigated how to make it safe, and I want to create an “admin” account with a strong password set to “no role for this site” to protect it as I might open the subscriptions in the future and do not want it hacked. However, there is no such option available (only roles showing are administrator, editor, author, contributor and subscriber). Is there no longer this option in the new version or is there a problem with my website?

Thank you in advance, I am a newbie and discovering everything.

  • Where did you hear about “no role for this site” and why would a list of roles include a non-role?
You could just use the lowest capability role: subscriber.

Thank you for your answer ! I found it as advice from developpers (specialized in security) who explained that even as subscriber, there could be potential ways for hackers to still get info through the admin account (even though much less than the other more powerful account roles, obviously).
I also found that option “no role on this site” mentioned in different articles but the majority are from 2012-2017 and I just cannot find if it just disappeared or if my dashboard has an issue. Should I assume it does not show in yours either?

I have never seen that. It sounds like something that would be in multisite (and I don’t use multisite).
It sounds to me that having no “admin” user would be better than having one with no role.

I’ve noticed that if I allow multiple roles in Members setting, the user form shows all roles with checkboxes. But –No role on this site– is not one of them.

Only if I disallow multiple roles does –No role on this site– appear as a choice on the roles drop-down.
