    According to your instructions:

    4. Enter your MailChimp API Key and let the plugin verify it.

In MailChimp Setup, there is nowhere to enter my API. It take me directly to “connect” and I can’t connect unless I connect externally (by going to mailchimp.com first) – THEN it let’s me connect via WP. Then I can see my list and I have a MC widget, but as soon as I log out of the MC site, my widget goes away – ??? I’m thinking this has something to do with not being able to find an input for the API.

    Help please.

  • Hi Johndove523,

Thanks for hopping in the forum. It seems that those installation instructions might be a little out of date. Currently to install the plugin, in the wordpress admin area, click on the plugins tab on the left navigation, then select settings under the MailChimp plugin. From that page, click the connect button and enter in your MailChimp details.

This page has more updated step by step instructions on installing the plugin: http://connect.mailchimp.com/how-to/81

    Thanks!

    mcd,

    I say again:

It take me directly to “connect” and I can’t connect unless I connect externally (by going to mailchimp.com first) – THEN it let’s me connect via WP. Then I can see my list and I have a MC widget, but as soon as I log out of the MC site, my widget goes away

    Still have the same problem.

    Hi Johndove523.

Thanks! Just to clarify, we no longer use the API key to establish a connection between your wordpress site and MailChimp. The connection is done using oauth, so you would enter in your MailChimp log in details when setting up the plugin.

Now to narrow down on what’s happening here, we need a few more details on your setup. Can you send us the version of the plugin you’re using as well as the wordpress version? Also are you installing this on a local environment or is it on a live site online? And lastly, when you’re logging out of MailChimp are you logging out from the plugin settings in the wordpress admin area? Or is it another tab or window in your browser?

We look forward to hearing from you!

    WP v 3.8, MC v. 1.4.1

It’s installed on a live site. I’m logging out via the MailChimp site.

No API, got it. I was under the impression that you create a MailChimp account, you get the plugin, the plugin is in your widgets – done.

    1. I click “connect”

    2. It gives me the login dialog.

    3. I enter User & PW

    4. ?? – nothing. But I CAN connect via MailChimp.com

    Hey John,

Thanks for the follow up. In this case it sounds like you aren’t getting feedback at all when trying to connect to MailChimp through the plugin. Is that right? Does the same thing happen if you try the same thing in an alternate browser?

It’s possible your server could be blocking the outgoing or incoming traffic to/from MailChimp’s servers. Would it be possible for you to check and see with your host if any traffic is being blocked when trying to make that connection? It may be worth seeing if any traffic to or from sopresto.socialize-this.com is being seen as being blocked.

Any additional details regarding the process or any messages you’re seeing would be especially helpful.

    Thanks!

    Hey Gabe,

Okay, mystery solved. I was using THIS plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp/… when I should have been using THIS plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp-for-wp/

It’s working now. However, when I log into my MC account, it shows 0 subscribers. I subscribed, and I got an email confirmation. Why does my account show no subscribers?

Any helpful topics you could send along that teach me about how to view and edit my MC account would be appreciated. – Thanks!

Scratch that. I didn’t click the confirmation link in the email (duh). Still, any helpful articles you could send still applies. : )

    Thanks!

    Hi JohnDove523,

I’m glad you were able to sort it out. If you’re just getting started with MailChimp, you might want to check out this guide: http://kb.mailchimp.com/article/whats-the-best-way-to-get-started-with-mailchimp

Also a warning, the plugin at http://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp-for-wp/ isn’t an official MailChimp plugin. The official plugin is at http://wordpress.org/plugins/mailchimp/ You are free to use the other plugin if you want, but for support with the plugin, it’s best to ask questions in that plugin’s support forum.

    Thanks!
