    For some reason almost none of the articles on my blog get a picture in Google search results. For example when I search “orzo salade met feta”.

    I am using the Veen theme and Yoast (free).
    The article has a featured photo
    The mobile search preview in Yoast shows the picture.

    Can someone check the linked page and tell me what is wrong?

    @jdevreede We understand you are concerned with the preview image on your site not appearing in Google as expected.

    We would first recommend checking to ensure that the image that is appearing in the snippet preview for that URL meets Google’s guidelines here: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/data-types/article#article-types.

    We output that image into the source code with instructions that tell Google to use that image. If the image does not meet Google’s guidelines, Google may decide to not use it. In this manner, we suggest examining the image and confirming it does.

    If the image does meet Google’s guidelines then there is an issue with Google for whatever reason deciding not to generate a thumbnail image. We say this as Yoast outputs the data and instructions for Google but it is up to Google to use it. If that is the case, we recommend contacting Google for further assistance by making a post on their forum here https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters. They should be able to provide you with additional information as to how to get image thumbnails in the search results.

    There are 2 pictures in this article clearly named like the article topic like “Orzo-salade-met-feta-recept-1-950×500.jpeg”.

    Both are > the required minimum width:
    1st = 950×500 pixels
    2nd = 768×768 pixels

    So far that still leaves me clueless. Where can I find the sitemap, as there seem to be some requirements as to how these images are in there?

    Hi,

    We inspected the source code of https://www.eetman.nl/orzo-salade-met-feta/ and confirmed that Yoast SEO Premium is correctly outputting the primaryImageOfPage schema. We can see this is the image you want to appear. Yoast is outputting it with the right schema tag here: https://ibb.co/XLdf8Z5

    Please, note that it’s entirely up to Google to decide what to show in the search results. Apart from the schema markup for the primary image, there are other factors (i.e. authority, context, etc.) that Google may take into account to decide whether or not to display an image next to your pages. As our plugin is generating the schema markup as expected, we recommend contacting Google for further assistance by making a post on their forum here https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/webmasters. They should be able to provide you with additional information as to how to get image thumbnails in the search results.

    Additionally, you may want to check out this post where the author investigates what factors may trigger the appearance of images in mobile search results: http://blumenthals.com/blog/2018/10/03/local-mobile-image-thumbnail-serps-its-all-about-context/.

    Thank you for checking it. I will look into the other resource you refer to.
