I used to wish for fewer updates, and now I REALLY got my wish–none of the plugins on this site have received an update notification for almost 2 months. I mean, it’s nice and quiet, but I know there is a problem. Also, wordpress seems to be stuck on 4.9.1.
“Check for updates” seems to respond from the Updates page (it doesn’t find any, but the time/date of last check will update to the current time/date).
The site seems to be operating normally in all other respects, and I have some of the same plugins on other sites that have received notifications and which I have updated.
Don’t really know where to start looking to fix this. Could use some help pointing me in the right direction.

    Thanks!

First off, check your wp-config.php if all auto updates are disabled in there.

Hmmm, my wp-config.php doesn’t have any definitions or filters for automatic updates. BTW, my updates have never been automatic– each plugin has always asked to be updated, and I’ve had to do it manually.

    What’s next to check…?

Try deactivating ALL (yes all) plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).

Twilight Zone man. Somehow this plugin showed up in my site called “Disable All WordPress Updates” by By Oliver Schlöbe. It was doing exactly what it was designed to do. I disabled it and…presto–plugin updates appeared instantly and wordpress updated itself a couple of minutes later. I don’t think any of my people did it but I’ll ask around…so weird.

    Thanks for the suggestions t-p!
