Do you happen to have a link I can look at?

I will enable the plugin for a few minutes. When enabled my home page looks like crap as well… Please check right now.

I have been using “Tiled Gallery without Jetpack” which gives me masonry but has other problems and plugin no longer seems to be supported. That’s why I’m looking for a new one.

    Thank you for your help!

Hmmm. What is your thumbnail width and height set to?

That is the correct size for my thumbnails (which are used in another part of the blog design not visible from these pages), but shouldn’t masonry be a tiled mosaic look with the photos different sizes and fit together in a cool layout?

I have now restored the other plugin so you can see how I expect it to look, more or less. Problem with continuing to use that plugin: I can’t change width of the container, can’t center the gallery, there is a known jetpack&derivatives image-loading bug, and there are display problems in chrome.

    Thanks again

This plugin piggy backs off of the core WordPress gallery. So if your thumbnail width is set to 150px by 150px with a hard crop, then it’s going to look very blocky.

Try this, you can always roll back:

Make sure “Crop thumbnail to exact dimensions (normally thumbnails are proportional)” is unchecked. You can also change the size of thumbnails as well. I like to set my thumbnail width between 150px and 250px, then set the height to 9999px. Then install the Regenerate Images plugin and run it. Now your gallery images will stack.

The photos in the gallery should be much bigger than thumbnails. I don’t see how the thumbnail setting is relevant?

The size of the thumbnails is really relevant for Masonry. Images in Masonry galleries have the same widths, but different heights. Here is an example of a Masonry gallery. Notice how every image is the same width, but the heights differ.

The mosaic gallery look you want is NOT Masonry.

Have you tried this plugin? https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-tiles/

Thanks for all the cute cats!

You are right, that’s not the look I want. I thought that masonry was just the technical term for “mosaic” style gallery.

I’m so sorry for bothering you. And that’s very much for taking the time to teach me.
