Since the update to v1.7 a couple days ago this no longer works.
Nothing else has changed on my WP sites… just this update.
I’ve used this plugin for years and it has always worked flawlessly.
Now it causes image uploads to timeout the server.
Won’t smush any images and constantly reports “bad response”.
I even tried backing up to an older version and the same problems are present… makes no sense when it has worked perfectly for at least 4 years on some of the sites I own or manage.
Please let me know when these issues are remedied and I’ll try it again
    Thank you,
    Rhonda (aka LL)

  • I”m having the same issue, I get a http error when uploading an image

I am experiencing the same issue. I had to deactivate the plugin. No one at our institution was able to upload images with getting an HTTP Error. The readout for the error says: Error loading to Smush.it. I really like this plugin. Hoping a fix comes around soon. Plugin worked great before the update.

The same here. I get a http error on upload. Was working until I updated the plugin. I have deactivated the plugin and I can now upload. It also stopped regen thumbnails from working!

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for reporting this. I suspect Yahoo’s servers may have a bit of an influx of traffic, the plugin may take a good moment or fail to smush if the server is overloaded.

You’ll see some mention about that in threads like this:
    https://wordpress.org/support/topic/bad-response-from-smushit-2?replies=3

The plugin provides an option at Media > WP Smush.it to disable auto-smushing. That way you could still upload files just fine and then attempt the smush process late.

The option is “Smush images on upload“, you can select “Do not process on upload“.

You can also check on the Smush server status and even attempt a manual process of the images here: http://www.smushit.com/ysmush.it/

Right now, I’m able to complete smushes in a test site though it’s admittedly not so fast right now thus I think it’s just the server hitting a bottleneck with traffic.

Perhaps the above will help for now though? Usually heavy traffic just happens in bursts then things work as normal after a bit.

Any specific concerns or questions, just let us know. We’re here to help! 🙂

    Cheers,

Does anyone have an older WordPress version to see how the plugin (update and/or older version) behaves in the same environment we were using it in before? It might be a compatibility issue–Yahoo’s site is working fine for the same images. Meanwhile, the plugin has been giving me the same error consistently for 2 days now. Cannot brush it off as another website’s server overload.

    Hey @the Barefoot Bookworm,

Thanks for posting, sorry to hear you had some trouble though. 🙁 We can only feasibly support recent versions of WordPress but you can still access older versions of the plugin here if needed: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-smushit/developers/

Perhaps one of those older versions will help sort out the issue? Feel free to create a new ticket and we’ll gladly look into the specifics with you. 🙂

    Cheers,
    David

Good news! We’ve worked like maniacs the last week and built our own free API that is faster, more reliable, and more powerful, and just released the rewrite of the plugin to use it.

Upgrade now and let us know how it works for you! (if you like it, consider giving us a nice rating!)
