OK, NextGEN Gallery has changed how it accepts legacy gallery templates. I’ve forked NextGEN Gallery and created a patch that allows plugins like this one to tell NextGEN Gallery where to find additional templates. I’ve branched my plugin to work with that patch. If / when Photocrati accept my pull request, I’ll release a new version of NextGEN Download Gallery to work with this patch.
In the meantime, if you have a whole gallery that you want to use with the download template, you can do that with a shortcode, e.g. for gallery with ID 1, you can use this shortcode:
[nggallery id=1 template=download]

That’s good news; I’ve been using the shortcode and that all works fine just a little less elegant.
NextGEN Gallery v2.1.2 has been released with support for this, so all should be good again now 🙂
